Beach Cottage, Marin County, California

This little beach cottage is constructed as a weekend getaway for a single professional who works during the week in San Francisco and retreats to the grassy hills of the Marin County coastline on the weekends to relax and get in some quality mountain-biking time.  The house is compact with a footprint of a mere 16 feet by 20 feet (320 square feet total area), but contains a large room for cooking and relaxing, a full bath, and a built-in box-bed.  Not much storage is required for this outpost, but some is provided by built-in drawers under the bed and an attic over the bathroom and bed alcove.  The floors are stone tile for ease of sand removal and the wood siding is stained a dark charcoal black to help camoflage the cottage in the grassy hills and rock outcrops.  The 8 foot high by 14 feet wide sliding doors face the westerly view to the Pacific Ocean and give access to a wide concrete patio.
